3 unsuspecting benefits to exercising with a TRX. Just my own opinion but since I stopped relying on a gym (combined with my poor lifting form) several years ago and turned to only training with a TRX, here’s 3 little wins I’ve noticed…
Meditative
The ability to exercise anywhere in your own personal space without any distractions. For me there’s no more looking at others in a gym, what they’re lifting / doing, which piece of equipment is free thinking would he/she mind if I use ‘that’ and how do i approach him/her to ask…
The lack of distraction means my focus has shifted more internally on myself, on mastering the TRX exercise technique with correct muscular contractions and how the body feels performing ranges of movement. I find the mind becomes focused on just myself and my internal feelings within the space, it doesn’t wander to anything else. Technically that’s a form of meditation.
Instability
Performing most TRX exercises puts the whole body in an unstable position. Meaning many additional stabilising muscles are incorporated whilst exercising the primary muscle itself. Especially the core, glutes and shoulder girdle. Overtime this leads to more overall development across a multitude of smaller muscles that wouldn’t have necessarily been targeted otherwise.
The body compositions of athletes who are constantly in an unstable routine look aesthetically well shaped, gymnasts for example.
Sneaky time
That time that often sneaks away in the gym without realising. Roughly, I believe I used to spend on average 3 minutes waiting for something or someone in the gym within a one hour session. I trained 5 times a week, that’s 15mins a week, 780 mins a year, 7800 mins in ten years. That’s 130 hours or 5 1/2 days I’ve spent waiting in the gym. With a TRX there’s no waiting, I’ve got all my sneaky time back!
